1.   Summary

This product bulletin announces availability of the Fibre Channel (FCP) Solaris™ Host Utilities 4.2 for Native OS and Veritas™ for First Customer Ship via NOW™ (NetApp on the Web) and in the current Quote Tool release. The FCP Solaris Host Utilities 4.2 adds support for Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0 MP1 HA (VxFS 5.0 MP1, VxVM 5.0 MP1, DMP 5.0 MP1, VCS 5.0 MP1) and Storage Foundation 5.0 MP1 for Oracle® RAC. The FCP Solaris Host Utilities 4.2 continues support, introduced with FCP Solaris Host Utilities 4.1, of the Solaris Native I/O stack on SPARC and x86/64 (AMD) server platforms.

The FCP Solaris Host Utilities 4.x is a host-software-based product that delivers tools and documentation to support the integration of NetApp FCP storage systems with Sun™ Solaris SPARC- and x86/64 (AMD)-based host operating environments, using either Sun Native multipathing, volume management, and file system or Veritas Storage Foundation and Veritas Cluster Server, mixed Sun Native OS, and Veritas I/O stack configurations. The FCP Solaris Host Utilities 4.x is required to ensure proper configuration and support of NetApp FCP storage systems, and consists of:

·         A configuration tool to set proper host-to-switch and switch-to-storage timeout values for use with NetApp FCP storage systems.

·         A script for enabling persistent bindings of World Wide Port Names with Emulex HBAs in a Solaris host environment (with Veritas configurations).

·         The sanlun software tool to view paths to LUNs configured on NetApp storage systems.

·         Diagnostic scripts for collecting and reporting host (OS, HBA, Veritas), switch, and NetApp storage configuration information.

·         Documentation describing how to configure a Solaris-host-based FCP connection to a NetApp storage system, including commands and procedures.

·         Note: The access location for the Veritas Array Support Library (ASL) 5.0 for supporting NetApp FCP storage systems with Storage Foundation 5.0 MP1 is available on the NetApp SAN Support Matrix at http://now.netapp.com/NOW/knowledge/docs/san/fcp_iscsi_config/index.shtml. The Veritas ASL 4.0.2 for supporting NetApp FCP storage systems with Storage Foundation 4.1 and 4.0 continues to be delivered with FCP Solaris Host Utilities 4.1.

·         Note: The FCP Solaris Host Utilities 4.x does NOT include HBA drivers, which may be obtained for Veritas configurations from the NetApp support page of the Emulex Website at http://www.emulex.com/ts/index.html; for configurations using the Sun native HBA firmware and drivers, the firmware and drivers are distributed via the Solaris operating system.

·         Note: The FCP Solaris Host Utilities 4.x is a software-based product and does NOT include an FC HBA. See Section 4.B for HBAs sold separately by NetApp.

2.   What’s New?

New Feature and Configuration Support with FCP Solaris Host Utilities 4.2

1)       Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0 MP1 HA (High Availability) for Solaris

                                       i.      Storage Foundation delivers a suite of tools to enable heterogeneous host operating system support and data management for enterprise environments and is comprised of Veritas Volume Manager 5.0 MP1, Veritas DMP 5.0 MP1, Veritas File System 5.0 MP1, and Veritas Cluster Server 5.0 MP1. NetApp supports Storage Foundation Enterprise level distributions and the lesser included Storage Foundation Basic and Storage Foundation Standard distributions.

ii.      Storage Foundation 5.0 MP1 http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/products/overview.jsp?pcid=2245&pvid=203_1 delivers improved performance and scalability to enable faster boot time and more predictable time to failover; increased intelligence in I/O path selection to stop using paths before they fail; and improved path restoration capabilities through monitoring idle LUNs.

2)       Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0 MP1 for Oracle RAC

                                    i.         Includes the features of Storage Foundation plus a cluster file system and cluster volume manager for concurrent data access from multiple servers, and Oracle RAC environment support.
